Discover the five places in Northern Israel where Jesus walked, marking key events in His life.

Nazareth: A place where Jesus walked in Northern Israel

Nazareth is known as one of the holy sites in Northern Israel and it is where Jesus grew up. It is also where Jesus learned carpentry from his father, Joseph.

Nazareth played a significant role in Jesus’ life and ministry. Jesus is commonly identified as “Jesus of Nazareth,” and the village is referenced in several crucial events, including His return to Nazareth:

“He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)

Nazareth hosts several important sites, including the Church of the Annunciation, a Catholic church believed to mark the spot where the angel Gabriel informed Mary about the birth of the son of God. Another church in the area, known as the Church of Saint Joseph, is said to have been constructed over the site of Joseph’s workshop.

Cana: Where Jesus performed His first miracle

Cana holds significance as one of the places in Northern Israel where Jesus performed His first public miracle, turning water into wine at a wedding feast. The location of this miracle is significant because it marks the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry, the revelation of his true nature, and His compassion:

“…and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine…What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” (John 2:9-11)

While the exact location is uncertain, the commemoration of the miracle is at Kfar-Cana.

Capernaum: The Hub of Jesus’ Activities in Northern Israel.

“Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake…” (Matthew 4:13).

Capernaum is located on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee. Capernaum, one of the key holy sites in Northern Israel, was significant for Jesus during His ministry and the center of Jesus’ activities in Galilee. So many important events took place there.

Among the notable occurrences are the healing of the centurion’s servant, the casting out of an unclean spirit in the synagogue, and the miraculous catch of fish. Further, one of the most significant events that took place in Capernaum include the healing of a paralyzed man (Mark 2).

Today, the ruins of Capernaum have been extensively excavated, revealing the ancient synagogue where Jesus likely taught and the foundations of homes that date back to the time of Jesus. Capernaum is one of the most exciting biblical sites in the Holy Land, offering a wealth of exploration opportunities. The events of Jesus’ life come to life amidst the ruins of the village.

Caesarea Philippi: Where Jesus revealed Himself as Messiah

“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” (Matthew 16:13)

Caesarea Philippi is another holy site in Northern Israel, where Jesus revealed Himself as the Messiah to His disciples and where he promised to build his church.

In the Gospel of Matthew (16:13-20) it is written that Jesus and his disciples went to the region of Caesarea Philippi. There, Jesus asked them who people said he was. The disciples responded with various answers, but then Peter declared, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus blessed Peter for his declaration of faith and promised to build his church upon him. Jesus revealed his true identity to his disciples and established the foundation of the church.

Caesarea Philippi is located at the foot of Mount Hermon, and it is also known for its beautiful surroundings and natural springs.

Sea of Galilee: The Site of Many Miracles Performed by Jesus

While not an exact location, The Sea of Galilee is yet another location in northern Israel connected with Jesus’ journey and holds several significant events. It is where Jesus walked on water!

“Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘It’s a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’” (Matthew 14:25-27)

Today, the Sea of Galilee is also a popular destination to experience the natural beauty of the region. On your tour, you will be able to enjoy sailing across the lake and enjoy the special serenity of the Sea of Galilee.
